Birthday Protocols

There are two slightly different protocols, one for ECD and one for K-5.

ECD

Mazal Tov on your ECD student's birth-day.
Birthdays
are always special at Lehrman and as your child’s birthday approaches
we wanted to remind you of possibilities for sharing the celebration with your child’s Lehrman friends, as well as provide helpful information as you plan birthday parties outside of the school.

Happy Birthday at Lehrman:
ECD students: are serenaded during Kabbalat Shabbat of their birthday week.

Children whose families participate in the PTC Birthday Book Club receive their book(s) or book certificate(s) on the last Friday of the month at Kabbalat Shabbat

Consider the Lehrman Gift Back Club!
Lehrman has helped us, our community, and the Jewish people by providing us with a great general and Jewish education, so we think we should give back to Lehrman to help it educate lots of other kids like us…

The Gift Back Club (GBC) is an opportunity for us to "give back" to Lehrman each year on our birthday. Instead of receiving gifts on that special day, we choose to ask friends and relatives to make a contribution to Lehrman in our honor.

When funds are collected, we get to choose any one of a number of areas in the school where the contributions will make a difference.

In recognition of our participation in the GBC, our name will be posted on an Honor Wall, and we will receive an embroidered badge which we can wear on a shirt, a hoodie, or place on our backpack.

The Celebration May Continue
ECD students: arrange with the teacher a time and date that works conveniently for you and your child’s class.

Lehrman Birthday Bakery: We are back to offering in-house baked goods! Click HERE to download an order form. However, if you bring in a dessert on your own, it must be from one of the three acceptable vendors. Please see the Birthday Cake Bakery blog entry for a list of sources.
Please keep in mind that all ECD school parties will be limited to your child’s class, and are limited to the dessert you provide.
Please do not arrange for activities.

Birthday Celebrations Outside of School
Invitations: Lehrman is glad to help you by putting invitations in classmates’ backpacks provided the entire class or all children of one gender is/are invited. Clearly it would be insensitive and inconsistent with the Jewish values we seek to instill in the children to leave anyone out.
Dates for parties: Families should not plan any birthday celebrations on Shabbat or any major Jewish holidays.
Food: All birthday parties should include certified kosher food so that all students and families who attend can participate and enjoy the party comfortably. We will be glad to assist you if you have questions about this.

We wish your child the
Happiest Birthday
and look forward to another great year!

K-5

Mazal Tov on your K-5 student's birth-day.

Happy Birthday at Lehrman:
K-5 students: are called up during t’fillah for a rousing tri-lingual “Happy Birthday” on the Monday of their birthday week.
Children whose families participate in the PTC Birthday Book Club receive their book(s) or book certificate(s) on the last Friday of the month at Kabbalat Shabbat.

The Celebration May Continue
K-5 studentsIn the interest of health, fairness, and of course, joyous celebrations, Grades K-5 celebrates birthdays on Friday, once a month, for children born in that month.
The celebration occurs at lunch, with cupcakes from our Lehrman bakery, along with fellow students from the birthday boys’ and girls’ grade level.
The school will provide the cupcakes at no cost to parents.
Parents are invited to join at the lunch celebrations.
Teachers will send out monthly reminders to the birthday celebrants.
We have determined the following Fridays for the 2018-19 school year—generally the first Friday of the month, though there are some notable exceptions.
August birthdays: Friday, 8/31
September birthdays: Friday, 9/7
October birthdays: Friday, 10/5
November birthdays: Friday, 11/2
December birthdays: Friday, 12/21
January birthdays: Friday, 1/11
February birthdays: Friday, 2/1
March birthdays: Friday, 3/1
April birthdays: Friday, 4/5
May birthdays: Friday, 5/3
June & July birthdays: Friday, 5/31
We will still recognize all birthdays at t’fillah on Mondays, and the PTC will present Birthday Book certificates monthly at Kabbalat Shabbat.
Please note: these group celebrations will take the place of all K-5 private in-school birthday parties as previously held at Lehrman.
